This is a super limited edition model made in the Gibson Custom Shop with a Murphy Lab finish. Only 200 were made, and they've been high in demand ever since. We were super excited to see this guitar coming here - not only are we fans of Gibson, but of Metallica as well.
This iconic axe is a solid, lightweight mahogany body finished in a nitrocellulose lacquer that has been carefully aged by the Murphy Lab to mimic the real-world scars, dings, and tape marks of Kirk's actual touring guitar. It is an imposing, blacked-out masterpiece that delivers the devastating midrange punch required for thrash metal royalty.
Featuring a solid mahogany neck carved into Kirk’s exact, ultra-sleek '79 Flying V profile. It is significantly slimmer and faster than a traditional '50s or '60s Gibson carve, allowing your hand to effortlessly fly across the entire fretboard. The premium rosewood fingerboard boasts a comfortable 12" radius, 22 perfectly dressed frets, and classic pearloid dot inlays. Thanks to the expert neck-through construction and uninhibited upper-fret access inherent to the V shape, executing blistering solos and lightning-fast down-picked riffs feels incredible from the first fret to the last.
This historic recreation screams with ferocious authority, loaded with a pair of calibrated EMG 81 and EMG 60 active humbuckers—the exact pickup configuration that defined the "Metallica tone" for decades. The EMG 81 in the bridge provides razor-sharp articulation, tight low-end chunk, and a searing high-end bite that never gets muddy under extreme high-gain settings while the EMG 60 in the neck delivers thick, smooth sustain for soaring leads and clean playing.
